What’s in a Name? The Story Behind Rare Earth and Precious Metals

For years I thought about a name for my jewelry business and Rare Earth and Precious Metals really captured what I do and what inspires me. It’s not just a fancy name, it’s rooted in the incredible materials I get to work with every day. The name Rare Earth and Precious Metals was chosen with purpose. It reflects the natural wonders of Earth that creates both gems and other mineral treasures. Together, they form the foundation of every piece of jewelry I’ve created under this name.

Rare Earths: Nature’s Hidden Treasures

Scientifically speaking, “rare earth elements” are a group of 17 metallic elements vital in modern technology. They’re used in making things like phones, magnets, and even wind turbines. But when I talk about rare earths, I mean it in a different way.

For me, rare earths are the one-of-a-kind stones that nature has been quietly working on for millions of years. Think of agates with fiery bands of color, turquoise that forms in copper-rich deposits, or petrified wood that turned to stone over time. Each gem started its journey at different levels in the Earth’s crust, shaped by heat, pressure, and time. When it reaches my workbench, it already carries a story. I just get to bring out its beauty and turn it into wearable artwork.

Precious Metals: Timeless Beauty

The other part of the name is all about the metals that hold these stones. Gold, silver, platinum… these are what jewelers call “precious metals.” Metals like gold and silver have been valued for thousands of years across cultures.

Gold glows with warmth, silver shines bright and cool, and platinum has a quiet luxury all its own. What I love most is how these metals not only frame the stones I cut, but also add their own personality to each piece. A pendant in silver feels different from one in gold, even if it’s the same stone. And that’s part of the magic.

 Bringing Earth and Metal Together

Jewelry created with rare earths and precious metals is more than simple adornment. Stones shaped by time meet metals refined by human hands, creating jewelry that carries stories millions of years in the making. Every ring, pendant, or bracelet I make isn’t just an accessory, it’s a little piece of Earth’s story, turned into something rare and precious for you. It’s a blend of natural history and craftsmanship, coming together to create something you can wear every day.

Why the Name Fits

Rare Earth and Precious Metals is more than a name, it is a reflection of the very heart of the craft. It represents the rare, the unique, and the beautiful, brought together to create jewelry that is not only meant to be worn, but cherished.

Because what the Earth makes rare and precious has the power to become rare and precious to its wearer.
